Gabriella Evermoon
Literary Agent

Hello, I’m Gabriella Evermoon — a writer and literary agent with a deep passion for storytelling. I’ve written and published two books: The Awakening Starseed, a YA science fiction fantasy novel, and Starseeds: Exploring the New Age, a nonfiction book that dives into New Age spirituality.

I’ve always loved reading and writing, especially stories that stretch the imagination and open the heart. I specialize in Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Mystery, and I work with both Young Adult and Adult manuscripts. As an agent, I’m dedicated to helping authors bring their visions to life and find the right publishing home for their work.

How does a literary agent get paid?

1. Agents Work on Commission Only

As an author, you do not pay your agent upfront. A legitimate literary agent earns only when you do.

  • Standard commission is 15% of any income the agent helps you earn from:

    • Publishing advances

    • Royalties

    • Subrights (like foreign editions, audiobooks, or film/TV options)

💸 2. When You Get an Advance

If your agent sells your book to a publisher and negotiates an advance (e.g., $10,000), that money goes to the agent first.

  • The agent then takes 15% ($1,500)

  • You receive the remaining 85% ($8,500)

This system ensures transparency and helps your agent monitor all payments and royalty statements from the publisher.

📚 3. When You Start Earning Royalties

Once your book earns back the advance through sales (known as "earning out"), you’ll start receiving royalty payments (usually twice a year).

  • The publisher still pays those to your agent first

  • The agent deducts 15% of any royalties and then sends you the rest

For example, if your royalty payment is $2,000, the agent keeps $300, and you receive $1,700.

🎥 4. Subrights & Other Deals

If your agent helps sell your work to a foreign publisher, audiobook producer, or film studio, they may work with a co-agent and the commission can be 20% or more, split between them.

✅ Summary:

  • You never pay your agent out of pocket.

  • They get paid only when you do — from sales they helped secure.

  • The standard is 15% commission (and sometimes more for foreign or media rights).

  • They handle all financial transactions with publishers and send you your earnings after their cut.
